Mads Mikkelsen Joins Director Alexander Payne's Upcoming Netflix Film
Netflix is set to finance and produce the next film from director Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Decedents, Downsizing) and Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Rogue One) is set to star in it. I’m a fan of both these talents and I can see the two making a great film together.
The untitled movie is described as “a father/daughter story about a Danish journalist who takes a road-trip with his teenage daughter across the U.S. as he writes a story for a newspaper.” Yep, that definitely sounds like the plot of an Alexander Payne movie!
A couple things that I enjoy about the films that Payne makes are the quirky characters he brings to life and the way he interjects his style of humor into his dramatic stories. The guy is great at developing his characters and I’m curious to see what he has in store for Mikkelsen’s character.
The film comes from a script written by Eriend Loe (Nord) and it will begin shooting next month in Sweden, Denmark and the U.S.
Payne is also developing a dark satirical comedy called The Menu, which will star Emma Stone and Ralph Fiennes. That film focuses on an “eccentric culinary event that is planned for an exclusive island and becomes the hot ticket to die for.” It’s been referred to as “a Tarantino-esque take on The One-Percent.”
