Mads Mikkelsen's Villainous DOCTOR STRANGE Character Revealed
Since Mads Mikkelsen was cast in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, the true identity of his character has been shrouded in mystery. There has been a lot of speculation and fan theory, but now we know exactly who he is playing, and it’s all thanks to a line of Diamond Select Doctor Strange minimates that will be released. If you don’t want to know who the villains will be.
The figures confirm that Mikkelsen will be playing the villain Kaecilius and that Zara Pythian is playing a character named Zealot. Heroic Hollywood got the tip with the official description of the figures:
A Diamond Select Toys Release! The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now the next entry in the long-running Marvel Minimates line! Series 70 of Marvel Minimates mini-figures travels to the world of the Doctor Strange movie, with four different two-packs: Dr. Strange with The Ancient One, Mordo with Kaecilius, the specialty-exclusive Stephen Strange with Christine Palmer and the specialty-exclusive Wong & Zealot! Each 2-inch Minimates mini-figure features 14 points of articulation and fully interchangeable parts. Each two-pack is packaged in a full-color window box.
Kaecilius is a disciple of Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) in the comics before he becomes a villain fighting against the Sorcerer Supreme. I don’t recall him being a very big character in the comics, which gives the director some creative freedom to build the character up however he wants, and it looks like he’ll be a villain in their story. Mikkelsen previously said about his character:
“Not really a baddie, but someone who believes in something else than what Doctor Strange believes in.”
As for Zealot, the character was originally a male mutant character. In the film, the character is a woman. I’m not sure if this is the same character for the comics or someone completely new with the same name. Both characters have previously been spotted on the set of the film.
The description also confirms that Rachel McAdams is playing Christine Palmer, which was previously rumored. So unless these figure descriptions are fake, then these are the characters that we’ll see in the film.
Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.
Doctor Strange also stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Benedict Wong as Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Scott Adkins, and Amy Landecker. The film is set to hit theaters on November 4th, 2016.
