MAGIC #1 Is Getting a Surprise Ashcan This Week
BOOM! Studios has a surprise for fans of Magic: The Gathering. Due to the demand from fans and retailers, there will be a special ashcan edition of Magic #1 available to qualifying stores. This edition includes a preview of the first issue plus exclusive backmatter. Each qualifying store will only receive one copy, so this is sure to be a treat for collectors. The ashcan will be available on March 10.
Across the vast Multiverse, those gifted with a “spark” can tap into the raw power of Magic and travel across realms -- they are Planeswalkers. When coordinated assassination attempts on Guildmasters Ral Zarek, Vraska, and Kaya rock the city of Ravnica and leave Jace Beleren’s life hanging in the balance, a fuse is lit that threatens not just these three Guilds, but the entire plane of Ravnica. Now these three must covertly infiltrate the wild plane of Zendikar and form a tenuous alliance to uncover why the targets of the assassins have all been Planeswalkers. . . which will lead them straight to one of the most enigmatic characters in Magic history!
Magic #1 will premiere on April 7 and is written by Jed MacKay (Marvel’s Black Cat), illustrated by Ig Guara (Marvel’s Ghost-Spider), colored by Arianna Consonni, and lettered by Ed Dukeshire. The main cover features art by Matteo Scalera with variants from Guara, InHyuk Lee, and Junggeun Yoon. In addition, a set of Hidden Planeswalker variant covers will be available from Miguel Mercado, Taj Tenfold, and Magdalena Pagowska featuring Liliana Vess, Kaya the Ghost Assassin, and Sorin Markov. There’s also the Magic Pack featuring the Collector’s Set of Magic #1 covers, an exclusive variant by Mirka Andolfo, the main cover, a randomly inserted Hidden Planeswalker variant, and a Black blank sketch cover.
You can get physical copies exclusively from local comic shops with digital copies being available from comiXology (affiliate link), Google Play, iBooks, and Madefire.
