MAGIC: THE GATHERING Releasing New King of Booster with ZENDIKAR RISING

During Comic-Con@Home, Mark Rosewater at Wizards of the Coast revealed a new kind of booster pack coming to Magic: The Gathering. Zendikar Rising is an upcoming set coming out in September for the popular trading card game, and with it will be the introduction of Set Boosters. Fans will already be familiar with Collector Boosters, Draft Boosters, and Theme Boosters; Set Boosters are merely a fourth kind of booster to help fans collect the cards they need.

Each Set Booster will come with 14 cards, 12 of which will be playable. As noted on the official blog, fans will receive 1 art card, 6 common and uncommon cards, a “visually interesting looking card,” a random card from the set of any rarity, a rare or mythic rare card, a foil card, and either an ad, token, or a card on “The List.”

The List is made up of 300 cards from across all 27 years of the game’s life. The card will be released with the same design and art as when it originally released, but keep in mind that they will only be legal in formats that they are already legal in. If a card is on The List, it doesn’t mean that you can use it in Standard.

Set Boosters will cost more than Draft Boosters (currently estimated to be about $1 more) and only 30 come in a box instead of 36. When they release in September, Set Boosters will only be available in English and Japanese languages with plans to introduce them into other languages eventually.

Zendikar Rising will be available in Magic: The Gathering Arena on September 17 with the physical release occuring on September 25.
