MAGIC: THE GATHERING Reveals More Info for ZENDIKAR RISING, MTG ARENA, and More
Wizards of the Coast recent shared some of its plans for Magic: The Gathering for the rest of this year and for 2021. First, we got a look at Zendikar Rising with over 20 cards being shown off as well as a glimpse of the return of Kicker and Landfall mechanics. Also, the new Party and Modal Double-Faced Cards mechanics were teased. Party will give cards effects based on the creatures in your party. These creatures are Clerics, Rogues, Warriors, and Wizards. Meanwhile, the Modal Double-Faced cards have different effects on either side and you can play it as either. The trick is that one side is always a Land card. That’s going to be annoying to play with as you’ll have to unsleeve and resleeve your cards a bunch. But maybe I’m wrong. Zendikar Rising will be available in Magic: The Gathering Arena on September 17 and in physical form on September 25.
In addition, the 2021 sets were revealed including a return to Innistrad and a stint in the Forgotten Realms.
Kaldheim – Magic’s Viking world – Winter 2021
Strixhaven – The most elite university in the Multiverse – Spring 2021
Adventures in the Forgotten Realms – Dungeons & Dragons comes to Magic – Summer 2021
Innistrad (two unnamed sets) – Werewolves and Vampires are back – Fall 2021
Time Spiral Remastered – Recapture the fun of a fan-favorite block
Modern Horizons 2 – A follow-up to the popular Modern Horizons set
In addition, fans can look forward to new Secret Lair releases. Yargle Day is happening today, and a special collaboration with The Walking Dead is in the works. That should be interesting.
The final piece of news, and the most exciting one to me personally, is the fact that Magic: The Gathering Arena is coming to mobile devices. Sadly, that was all the information we were given, but I’ll take it. I cannot wait to play Arena on my phone!
