Magical Girls Are in a Hurry in the Preview for SAVE YOURSELF #1
Save Yourself! is an upcoming four-part comic series that looks to put a twist on the magical girl formula. The series comes from writer Bones Leopard (Identical), artists Kelly and Nichole Matthews (Just Beyond), and letterer Jim Campbell, and we’ve got a preview of it below courtesy of BOOM! Studios. I enjoy a number of magical girl series, so I’m excited to see what Save Yourself has to offer. Also, I’m pretty sure most of us are feeling like Gigi as we enter a post-quarantine era.
What if Magical Girls aren’t Earth’s champions after all? The world’s most beloved heroes Aoe, Thel, and Gen, better known as the Lovely Trio, first burst onto the scene five years ago when they saved Earth from a surprise space monster attack! Since then, everyone–including Gigi, whose brother died as a bystander in a Lovely Trio battle– has idolized them as superheroic pop icons. But when Gigi witnesses the Lovely Trio battling a monster firsthand, she sees something that causes her to question everything she thought she ever knew about her heroes!
You can read Save Yourself! #1 on June 16. Physical copies will be available through local comic shops with digital copies available through comiXology, Google Play, iBooks, and Madefire. The main cover art is done by Kelly and Nichole while variants will be available from Stephanie Gonzaga (Ducktales) and Kevin Wada (DC Pride).
