Mahershala Ali Confirms He Will Be a Part of TRUE DETECTIVE Season 3

It looks like Moonlight and Luke Cage actor Mahershala Ali will be a part of the third season of HBO's crime drama True Detective. The actor confirmed on Instagram yesterday (below). HBO's president of programming, Casey Bloys also made the announcement official yesterday at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena. EW reports that Bloys confirmed the network has a deal with the Oscar-winning actor to star in a potential third season of the anthology series.

“I have read five scripts for a third season,” Bloys said. “I’m very very impressed and excited about what I’ve read. I don’t want to give away the storyline, but I really think they’re terrific.”

So it looks like HBO is really making forward momentum on the next season.  The network is nowlooking for directors, which is most likely the final step before an official greenlight. Cary Joji Fukunaga directed all eight episodes of the first season, while the second season was split up among directors, including Fast Five filmmaker Justin Lin.

The first season of True Detective starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, debuted in 2014. It was a very popular show among critics. The second season brought with it huge names, Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Rachel McAdams, but did not have same positive reaction.
