MailChimp Playing Cards Look Spectacular, And Support A Great Cause

We typically don't feature straight up playing cards at Geektyrant, but three reasons persuaded me into doing so. First, the cards themselves are a joint effort in conjunction with Theory11, who are responsible for some of the slickest looking cards around, and this set is no different. The sleek design on the box is raised, and the Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Jokers incorporate the chimp that MailChimp derives its name from (hence the bananas in the photo gallery below).

Secondly, Monkey's are awesome.

Thirdly, 100% of the proceeds go towards a lovely organization called Fugees Family. The organization originally just provided refugee boys with free access to organized soccer, but has steadily grown to offer year round soccer for kids 10-18, after school tutoring, and even the Fugees Academy. The Fugees Academy attempts to help refugee children catch up to their peers, education wise, and adapt to their new home. Here is an excerpt from their website that goes into greater detail.

Refugees are resettled in the United States after they have been forced to flee their homeland because of war or persecution. Often, there is a long waiting period between the time refugees leave their homes and the time they are granted entry to the United States. Generally, this interim time is spent in refugee camps, where the obstacles to survival and safety have been well-documented, and formal education for children is neither a priority nor an option. As such, when they do finally arrive in the United States, refugee students enter school behind their American-born peers – both academically and socio-emotionally – given that many of them have not had any formal schooling, and most have lived through traumatic circumstances. Further, they have no one at home to help, since their parents are usually illiterate in both their native language and English. Lacking the support and guidance they need to succeed in traditional public schools, too many refugee children fail to learn English, develop fundamental academic skills, or identify themselves as a valuable part of American society.
At the Fugees Academy, these students find a bridge from isolation to socialization and learning. The school strives to give its students the support, guidance, and direct instruction necessary to put them on a path to better adjustment, high school graduation, and further successes.

So, great cards and a great cause, all for $9.95. You really can't beat that. If you want more information on MailChimps exclusive cards, you can find that here. If you want more information on the Fugee Academy, you can get that here.
