Make Your Own Tabletop RPG with Chaosium's BASIC ROLEPLAYING SRD and Open Game License
If you’ve ever wanted to create your own tabletop RPG, now is a great time to give it a try. The folks over at Chaosium have released the Basic Roleplaying System Reference Document and Basic Roleplaying Open Game License. That means that “designers can create their own roleplaying games using the Basic Roleplaying rules engine, royalty-free and without further permission from Chaosium Inc.” That’s right, you can create the setting and world and not worry too much about rules as much.
This set of rules is the core for Chaosium’s popular Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, and SuperWorld RPGs that fans are loving. The key die for this system is the percentile die (2d10s) that you roll and hope you get it under your chance of success. If you have a 70% chance of success, you need to roll under a 70 to succeed. Pretty simple.
You can head over to Chaosium’s site to get all the tools you need. If you like physical books, you can order one for about $40. What kind of RPG are you going to make with these rules?
