Marc Webb Reveals Who THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 Villains Would Have Been

Man, when The Amazing Spider-Man was first released I had so much faith for director Marc Webb. His name has "Webb" in it. How can that not go wrong? I mean... besides what we know now of how the film could go wrong. It honestly feels like Webb's relationship with the Spider-Man series is the same as the relationship in 500 Days of Summer, coincidentally directed by Marc Webb. It was nice while it lasted, but ultimately they weren't meant to be together, and it became increasingly obvious as time went on.

But that doesn't stop people from thinking what could have been if it would have kept going. Including Webb himself, who had ideas on what the next Spider-Man was going to be about. At least WHO it was going to be about. He had thoughts on the villains, already aware a Sinister Six movie would be coming out first, and boy... did we dodge a bullet. Here's what Webb recently said to Den of Geek:

"We were talking about the Sinister Six. They were going to make a Sinister Six movie before we did the third one. But I wanted... Chris Cooper was going to come back and play the Goblin. We were going to freeze his head, and then he was going to be brought back to life. And then there was that character called The Gentleman. We had some notions about how to do it, but I think maybe we were thinking too far ahead when we started building in those things. But it was a fun exercise. I look back very fondly on those days."

Chris Cooper's head in a jar would be the main villain as well as a character known as The Gentleman. This. This could have been GLORIOUSLY BAD. So bad it's good. The only thing really I see as a problem is the fact that they have too much of the stupid Peter Parker's secret agent subplot. The Gentleman in the comics has had connections to Peter Parker's parents as a person trying to kill them and stuff.

Green Goblin would simply be Chris Cooper's head in a jar maybe screwed onto a robot body, and we'd have Paul Giamatti return as the Rhino. Webb also reveals that he had plans to include the Vulture, so let's say they didn't team up with Marvel Disney and decided to cast someone not as fantastic as Michael Keaton. Let's just hypothesize on who they would cast. Going on the side of great actors completely miscast, I'll go with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. For the rest of the Sinister Six we'll say Danny Trejo as Kraven, Neil Patrick Harris as Mysterio, Genderswap Dr. Octopus and have it played by Dame Judy Dench. Done. Best movie of the year. I'd watch it. I'd watch it multiple times. It doesn't even have to make sense. Having that cast playing those roles all interacting with each other to defeat Andrew Garfield and the Ghost/Clone of Emma Stone and Dennis Leary, because you know they're coming back... somehow. I can't see how this movie could go wrong.

I think Amazing Spider-Man did some things right. But, ultimately it's failure brought us the Spider-Man we have now in the MCU.
