Margot Robbie Describes Her BARBIE Movie as 'Something Totally Different'

Margot Robbie is on a roll right now, producing and acting in several projects in the near future, one of them being the full-length Barbie film that is currently in development. Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird, Little Women) is at the helm, and is co-writing the script alongside her partner, Oscar-nominated writer and director Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, Marriage Story).

Robbie recently talked about the movie, saying:

We like the things that feel a little left of center. Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you're thinking, we're going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn't know you wanted.’

That’s intriguing. It definitely seems like they are planning on making a solid film with Gerwig and Baumbach writing the script. Robbie’s producing partner Josey McNamara also said of the project:

And then Barbie, which is kind of our Everest. As Margot said, you think you know what that movie is with Margot as Barbie, but Greta and Noah have subverted it, and we can't wait to get into that one.

This movie hadn’t even been on my radar until now. I love Robbie, and I’m a big fan of the team she is building to make this movie happen. Are you interested in Barbie?
