Margot Robbie Explains That the BIRDS OF PREY Title Reflects That It's "Not a Very Serious Movie"
Margot Robbie recently showed up on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and once again confirmed that the full title of her Birds of Prey movie is Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). She also explained that they decided to go with that long title to reflect Harley Quinn’s personality. She also says that it reflects that this is not going to be a very serious movie.
“It’s not a very serious movie, so we thought the title should reflect that. Birds of Prey makes it sound very serious, and then that’s kinda like Harley adding her ‘Hey, I’m in this, too.”
You can watch her talk about it here:
The title hints that that the story will catch up with Harley Quinn when she's freed herself from her destructive relationship with The Joker.
Cathy Yan is directing the film, and Robbie will be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Ewan McGregor as the film’s villain, Black Mask, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain/Batgirl.
In Birds of Prey, Harley Quinn, Huntress, and Black Canary will team up to protect Cain when she comes across a diamond belonging to McGregor’s Black Mask, a kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
Birds of Prey is set to be released on February 7th, 2020.
