Margot Robbie's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Reboot Has Been Sunk by Disney
Back in 2020, it was announced that Margot Robbie was going to star in a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot for Disney. This film was going to focus on a female pirate named Redd who was included in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Disney theme parks.
The script for the movie was being written by Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson from an original story developed by franchise veteran Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced all five films in the franchise, was going to produce this new reboot.
With Robbie leading the charge on the project, you’d think Disney would be excited about running with it. Robbie is one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood, and it seemed like a lot of fans were actually excited about the fact that she was going to play a pirate in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Well, according to Robbie, Disney is not moving forward with the project, and it’s dead in the water. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, she offered an update on the project saying:
"We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would've been really cool, but I guess they don't want to do it.”
Disney has got so many projects going on right now and they can’t do everything. Maybe they feel the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has run its course, which I’d be fine with. While it would be cool to see more pirate films made in Hollywood, I think it’s ok to move away from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Would you like to see the Pirate of the Caribbean franchise continue? If so, what would you like to see from it?
