Marisa Coughlan is Making a Comedy for The CW Based on a Genderbent Dorian Gray

Marisa Coughlan from Super Troopers, is teaming with Hart of Dixie producer Len Goldstein to make Dorian for The CW. Coughlan is writing the series and here’s a description of the show before I go on.

“Dorian is a comedic spin on Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray with a gender switch. It centers on a woman who made a deal with the devil 50 years ago to remain young has spent the subsequent decades living selfishly and without consequences. As the downsides of eternal youth finally land on her, Dorian is ready to grow up and age gracefully, but, to do so, she’ll have to make amends for half a century of bad behavior.”

Genderbending is nothing new and can be really well done. Putting twists on old classics can also be really clever. Doing both should be a welcome experience. However, this sounds like they only took the idea of Gray making a deal with a devil for eternal youth and scrapped everything else about the book.

Am I crazy? Will there actually be a painting that ages instead of her body? If there’s no painting, there’s no point in saying it’s based on Dorian Gray.
