Mark Hamill Clarifies The Dark Side of Luke Skywalker in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

There have been a lot of things in the marketing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi alluding that Luke Skywalker may be embracing the Dark Side of the force. We've seen things in the trailers for the film and some of the promo art.

These little hints definitely have fans talking, and now, in a recent interview with Disney Rewards Insider, titled "40 Years of Heroism", actor Mark Hamill clarifies all of these teases of Luke embracing the Dark Side. One thing that he makes clear is that what they have done with the character pulled him out of his comfort zone. He explains:

“In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Luke has lost confidence in his ability to make good choices. It haunts him to the core. But he hasn’t gone to the dark side. This isn’t an evil version of him. But it’s still an incarnation of the character I never expected. It has pulled me out of my comfort zone. It’s a real challenge.”

So, if you were expecting to see Luke fully be engulfed in the Dark Side, that won't be the case. But, the direction of the character is definitely going to be something completely unexpected. I'm not sure what that will be, but if it pulls Hamill out of his comfort zone, there's a good chance that it will pull fans out of their comfort zone as well.

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

The film also stars the late Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi was written and directed by Rian Johnson. It's set to open in theaters on December 15, 2017.
