Mark Hamill Explains the BATMAN ARKHAM Games Allowed Him to Play a "Whole New Joker"
Mark Hamill was freakin’ amazing as The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. It’s such an iconic voice, and fans can’t help but compare every Joker that has come after to what Hamill brought to the villainous character.
Hamill reprised his role as The Joker several times over the years, but when he was brought in to voice the character in the Batman Arkham games, he was able to unleash the Joker fury in a way he was never able to do in Batman: The Animated Series.
In celebration of the 12th anniversary of Batman: Arkham City, Mark Hamill took to X, where he offered some insights on playing the Joker over the years, and how the Batman Arkham series gave him the opportunity to be a "whole new Joker."
He explained that Rocksteady Studios allowed him to explore the character in a more gritty and violent way than what TV was allowing him to do. He said:
“12 years & a day ago today. Freed from the constraints of television's Standards & Practices Dept. (TV censors) & aimed at a more mature audience, the Arkham trilogy was dark, gritty & extremely violent. This was a whole new Joker for me.”
Fans loved Hamill’s take on The Joker in those games! He wasn’t the only one from the original series to be involved with the games. He was joined by Kevin Conroy as Batman, as well as Batman: The Animated Series writer Paul Dini.
There’s a reason those games turned out to be so damn good.
