Mark Hamill Says Ryan Gosling Doesn’t Need Any Advice for STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER

Mark Hamill is more than happy to pass the lightsaber to the next generation, and he’s doing it with total confidence in Ryan Gosling.

The legendary Star Wars actor recently shared his thoughts on Gosling leading the upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter, and it’s clear he’s got nothing but admiration for the new cast stepping into the franchise.

Hamill told People: “I’ve been a fan of his and I became a super fan when he played Beavis on Saturday Night Live.”

When it comes to offering advice, Hamill isn’t interested in playing the wise Jedi mentor this time around. “None of those people need advice from me,” he said. “They’re doing so well. I had my time. I’m going to ask for advice from them.”

Set about five years after The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars: Starfighter marks a new chapter for the franchise. Directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine), the film stars Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, Matt Smith, and Amy Adams.

Story details are being kept secret, but reports suggest Goth and Smith will take on villainous roles. Production is currently underway in the UK.

When the movie was officially announced during Star Wars Celebration 2025, Gosling opened up about what drew him to the project, saying:

“It's probably framed my idea of what a movie even was. All of that aside, I think the reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a good story with great and original characters, it's filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

Star Wars: Starfighter opens in theaters on May 28, 2027. Here’s to hoping it ends up being a great Star Wars movie!
