The latest episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian offered some pretty cool insight on a few things that are connections, homages, and Easter eggs in the history of the Star Wars franchise.

One of the more interesting things that was revealed in this episode that I didn’t know about the series was that Mark Hamill actually has a secret role in the film. He came in to provide the voice of a character, and that character was actually from Return of the Jedi.

The character in question appears in Chapter 5 of The Mandalorian, which was titled “The Gunslinger.” That episode is set on the planet Tatooine and it takes The Mandalorian to Mos Eisley spaceport, which is the home of the cantina, where Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi meet Han Solo and Chewbacca and hire him for transportation to Alderaan.

While the Cantina didn’t allow droids back in the day, in The Mandalorian there were plenty of them and there was a droid bartending. It’s revealed that that droid is EV-9D9, who is the same droid that would register the new droid acquisitions in Jabba the Hutt’s palace in Return of the Jedi.

Mark Hamill was the actor who voiced this character in The Mandalorian! As you know, Hamill has had a great voiceover career and he’s super talented at it. It’s pretty cool that he was able to be a part of The Mandalorian by bringing this EV-9D9 droid to life for the series.

It was also pointed out that that the little droid in the scene that looks like R5-D4, which is the unit the Jawas initially tried to sell Uncle Owen. Uncle Owen didn’t end up buying it though because it had a bad motivator. Anyway, the droid in the cantina is that exact same droid, and Dave Filoni even had the prop department make sure give the droid a little extra detailing so that it displayed grease stains around the area where the motivator popped out of its head.
