Mark Millar Reportedly Writing STAR WARS/AVENGERS Crossover Comic for Marvel
Marvel Comics might finally be pulling the trigger on something fans have been wanting to see for a long time. A Star Wars/Avengers crossover comic is reportedly in the works, and if the latest intel is accurate, it’s being written by Mark Millar.
Ever since Disney acquired Star Wars in 2012, Marvel has been publishing stories set in that galaxy far, far away. But in the decade since Star Wars #1 launched in 2015, there hasn’t been a true Marvel Universe crossover with the franchise.
Not even a fan variant cover teasing what it might look like if Earth’s Mightiest Heroes crossed paths with Darth Vader or if the Guardians of the Galaxy tangled with the Galactic Empire.
Meanwhile, Marvel hasn’t exactly been shy about crossing its superheroes with other 20th Century Studios properties. We’ve seen Aliens vs. Avengers, Predator vs. Spider-Man, and even this month’s Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four.
Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld stirred the pot recently on X by claiming that a “Star Wars/Avengers” comic is on the way. Bleeding Cool followed up on that and reports that the project is very real. According to the outlet, this would be “the first full-blown cross-continuity Star Wars project,” and Millar is the writer steering the ship.
For longtime comic readers, Millar returning to Marvel for something this big feels significant. He’s the mind behind Civil War, The Ultimates, Kick-Ass, and memorable runs on Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Ultimate X-Men. When Millar swings for the fences, he tends to connect in a big way.
The report even hints that this crossover could be more ambitious than some of his past work. As Bleeding Cool puts it:
"So, might writing a Star Wars/Avengers comic, a first for such a thing in Star Wars history, be enough to tempt him back for one last job, before setting up Mark Millar Studios? That's what I'm hearing...and he sees it as something bigger than Civil War."
That’s a serious statement considering how massive Civil War was for Marvel Comics and how much it reshaped the landscape.
There’s also an interesting layer to all of this involving Millar’s recent career moves. Back in 2017, Netflix acquired his Millarworld imprint with plans to build out a slate of adaptations.
Eight years later, the results have been mixed at best. Jupiter’s Legacy lasted one season before being canceled. An anime adaptation of Super Crooks came and went with little fanfare. And American Jesus was adapted into the six-episode series The Chosen One.
There’s been talk that the Millarworld deal may have quietly wrapped up, potentially freeing Millar to focus on his newly formed Mark Millar Productions Ltd. If that’s the case, a high-profile return to Marvel with a historic Star Wars crossover would be one heck of a way to remind everyone what he can do.
Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed by Marvel or Lucasfilm yet. Despite Liefeld’s comments, the word going around is that the crossover could land in 2026, which would give Marvel plenty of time to build anticipation for what could be one of the biggest comic book events in recent memory.
If this really is happening, it’s a wild concept to think about. The storytelling possibilities are endless, and in the hands of Mark Millar, it could get gloriously chaotic.
