Mark Ruffalo Defends MARVEL Movies Saying You Get Something New Every Time, Unlike Films in the STAR WARS Universe

Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo is ruffling some feathers this week with his opinion that Marvel movies have more to offer than the films in the Star Wars universe. After recent comments from Lost and Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof, who said he’d like to see fewer Marvel movies made so that “each one that [comes] out [feels] a little bit more special,” Ruffalo defended the MCU, when asked by Metro.co.uk if there too much Marvel content.

“I understand that these things run their course and then something else comes along. But the thing Marvel has done well is that, inside the MCU, just as they do with comic books, they let a director or an actor sort of recreate each piece to their own style, their likeness. Marvel generally lets them bring that to the material.”

To prove his point, Ruffalo then threw a bit of shade at the Star Wars universe, saying:

“If you watch a ‘Star Wars,’ you’re pretty much going to get the same version of ‘Star Wars’ each time. It might have a little bit of humor. It might have a little bit of different animation. But you’re always, really, in that same kind of world. But with Marvel you can have a whole different feeling, even within the Marvel Universe.”

There are always several titles on the schedule for Marvel, between the three to four films we get on average per year in theaters and the number of new Marvel shows that have premiered on Disney+ since its launch. But I do also feel like each Marvel property and character have a very different vibe. It’s special and spectacular when they come together in the big event films, but each story does its own thing well enough to keep us intrigued in the separate story lines.

What do you think about what Ruffalo said? Do you think he has a point?
