Mark Ruffalo Discusses AVENGERS 4 and Explains That It's a Work in Progress as they Begin Reshoots

Joe and Anthony Russo and several members of the Avengers 4 cast are returning to the set of the film for reshoots. It seems Marvel Studios and the creative team are taking an interesting approach with this film as it's being treated as a work in progress. Mark Ruffalo explains that the film is a "living organism" that will continue to be changed and tweaked throughout the reshoots.

This isn't normally how reshoots are handled. Usually, a film is basically complete and the reshoots are done to fill in some gaps or change a few things up if need be. During an interview with The Marvelist podcast, Ruffalo revealed:

"We’re doing reshoots starting in September, and then we’ll go back into the international tour, we’ll go on tour. Then you guys will get the second installment. Which we don’t even know what it’s gonna be yet. We’re not just doing reshoots; we’re going to finish the movie, which we really didn’t get to finish totally when we left it last year."

When talking about the director's approach to the film, Ruffalo explained:

"I don’t even know that they really know exactly. Some of it is happening while we’re there. It’s pretty amazing. And we’ll shoot some stuff and a few days later come back and reshoot it cause we wanna take it in another direction. It’s a very living organism, even as we approach it being a locked picture, we’re still working on it.

That's fascinating. It's going to be really interesting to see what the end product turns out to be. We've heard rumors that the reshoots could be adding more of Wakanda in the film. Then Dave Bautista said that there may also be some changes to how the Guardians of the Galaxy are handled in the movie due to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently being in a state of limbo.

Maybe the way the reshoots are being done to throw off the cast and the fans of what is really going on. Maybe they are going to shoot more fake scenes to put in the trailers and marketing like they did with Infinity War to keep real story details hidden. We don't know exactly what is happening, but regardless, I trust these guys know what they are doing and I'm excited to see how the story plays out in the film!

Avengers 4 is set to open in theaters on May 3, 2019.
