Mark Ruffalo Explains That AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is "So Different From The Comic Books"

Over the past ten years that Marvel Studios has been making movies, they've never really given us a direct adaptation of any comic book. They've built their cinematic universe using various elements from the comics, and have created a whole new narrative that fans have loved.

That being said, I know that it's not surprising to hear that Avengers: Infinity War isn't going to tell the exact story that the comic tells. For example, I know some fans who have been hoping to see Thanos' infatuation of Death explored and Adam Warlock assembling a team to fight against him, but judging from everything that has already been set up in the films so far, those elements probably won't make it into the movie.

During an on-set interview with Mark Ruffalo, he explained that Infinity War is so different from the comic book, saying:

"This one we’re like, in new territory really. And it’s so different from the comic books. There’s elements that are clearly the same but when you really start to get into the story everything changes. Planet Hulk was a big influence for Thor 3, and the idea, the inkling of World War Hulk starts to… I read (that) way before doing this and there’s some interesting stuff in there, but honestly nothing so far directly related to this."

So, you can throw a lot of those comic book-inspired theories out the window. Ruffalo is then asked if he actually read the Infinity Gauntlet comic arc, and this was his replay:

"Yeah, that is informative as well, but then again it just gets so… off of that topic that it starts to become a little confusing where you’re like "Why isn’t this in there? Why are we doing this?"

Now, this doesn't mean that we won't see any elements from the comic book used in the film. In fact, I know that there are some things that will be used. We'll just have to wait and see what those things are.

What are some things from the comic that you were hoping to see in the film? Are there any elements from that you think they actually will use?
