Mark Strong Is Confirmed to Be in THE BATMAN Spinoff Series THE PENGUIN
Mark Strong (Shazam! and Kingsman)) has been confirmed to have been cast in Matt Reeves’ The Batman spinoff series The Penguin.
The news was shared by Strong’s trainer, Giacomo Farci. on social media. Farci was asked if it's true he worked on The Batman follow-up, and he replied, saying: "Yes, I've trained Mark for it."
When asked if he could reveal who the Shazam! star is playing, Farci said, "I cannot answer to this question but I'm sure you will figure it out."
We know he won’t be reprising his role as the villainous Doctor Sivana in the film, so what other character could the actor be playing?
Fans are speculating online that he is taking on the role of Hugo Strange, which would be an interesting choice for Strong. It’s a character that he would easily be able to slip right into.
Strange would even make an intriguing character because he could be used in the series to help set the stage for The Batman: Part II, the plot details of which we don’t know much about.
The series focuses on The Penguin’s rise to power in the underworld of Gotham City, and when talking about the tone of that story, Colin Farrell teased that it’s “incredibly twisted”.
The actor shared, “…it’s dark, that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s really dark, and really heavy… it’s incredibly violent.”
He went on to talk about the story saying: "It's one man's rise to what he's always dreamed of inhabiting, which is a certain power or social status. And the death of Carmine Falcone at the end of the film leaves this vacuum in Gotham to be filled.
“And so there are various people that are grabbing for that power and this is Oswald's journey, trying to rise to the top, through extraordinary obstacles and it's super dark. Lauren LeFranc wrote a really twisted eight hours of television."
The series stars Cristin Milioti, who plays female lead Sofia Falcone, and Rhenzy Feliz, who is playing a teen whom The Penguin befriends and makes his driver. The rest of the cast includes Michael Kelly (House of Cards, Jack Ryan), Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, House Of Sand And Fog) and Deirdre O’Connell (Outer Range).
The eight-episode series is set to premiere sometime this fall. Who do you think Mark Strong will be playing in the series?
