Mark Wahlberg Says UNCHARTED 2 Script is Written and Praises His Sully Mustache

Sony Pictures spent a decade trying to get an Uncharted movie off the ground and when it was finally made and released, it ended up being a big turd of a film and a waste of talent and money. Yeah, the movie made over $400 million at the box office, but the reviews trashed it, and it only has a 40% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Uncharted is one of Sony’s biggest and best video game franchises, but the studio executives and the creative team really messed it up. Regardless, they are developing a sequel and they are looking to build a franchise.

During a recent interview with The Direct, Mark Wahlberg offered an update on Uncharted 2 and confirmed the sequel is “very much in the works and a script has been written.”

"I've heard lots of different ideas. I know somebody's written a script, and they're still working on it, and it would consist of having the mustache the whole entire time. Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the mustache.”

Wahlberg went on to praise his mustache, saying:

“I spent quite a bit of time growing it because, at one point, we tried to do it with a fake mustache, and, I don't know. I just don't have the confidence to pull it off. It just feels like there's a big piece of tape over my mouth, and I feel ridiculous. I admire actors who can wear wigs and prosthetics and makeup and all that stuff. I've successfully worn one prosthetic, but that was long ago. When I finally got the mustache, people really appreciated it. And it was a nice tag to the end of that film. So if we can make it better than the first, you know, I'd be open to it, but I only know as much as you do right now."

While the first film was painful for me to watch because it took everything I loved about the game and ruined it, the film’s producer, Charles Rover, thinks the movie was actually good, and thinks people liked it. He previously said:

"Oh yeah! We had a really good time with that movie. The fans really liked the movie, and people who didn’t know anything about the game really liked the movie. So we are definitely looking to make another one of those."

I have zero desire to watch another uncharted movie, and if this sequel does end up getting made, it’s most likely going to be a box office bomb. As we’ve seen with these big franchise films from Marvel, DC, and Disney, people aren't flocking to theaters to watch these movies anymore like they used to. With a film as bad as Uncharted, it’s safe to say a lot of audiences aren’t going to waste their money or time on a sequel.

What do you think? Will you go watch an Uncharted sequel?
