MARSHMALLOW Horror Sequel Heads Back to Camp With Original Cast and Creative Team Returning
One of last year’s standout indie horror surprises is gearing up for another trip into the woods. Marshmallow is officially getting a sequel, and the team behind the original is coming back to push the story into much darker territory.
Hemlock Circle Productions confirmed that director Daniel DelPurgatorio, writer Andy Greskoviak, and cast members Kue Lawrence, Kai Cech, Dylan Friedman, and Max Malas are all returning for the follow-up. A release date hasn’t been announced yet, but the next chapter is officially in motion.
The sequel picks up years after the events of the first film and digs into the fallout left behind. “Set years after the events of the first film, the sequel follows the lingering damage left behind — not just to the world, but to those who survived it.
“The story descends into far darker territory, expanding the mythology while erasing any remaining sense of safety as the consequences finally come due.”
The original Marshmallow centered on a group of kids at a summer camp being stalked by a mysterious figure, before taking a sharp turn that flipped expectations on their head. If you missed it, the film is currently streaming on Paramount+, Amazon, and Shudder.
Hemlock Circle Productions co-founder Todd Friedman shared why the team felt it was time to continue the story. “Marshmallow opened the door to a world that still has a lot of dark corners left to explore,” Friedman said in a press release. “We’ve always believed there was more story to tell, and the response from audiences has only reinforced that.”
The sequel keeps the creative DNA intact, with DelPurgatorio continuing to shape the tone that helped the original connect with horror fans. He’s represented by Gersh agents Abram Nalibotsky and Sean Barclay.
Hemlock Circle Productions launched in 2019 and has steadily built a reputation for smart, efficiently budgeted genre projects aimed at a global audience.
