Martin Freeman's Role in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Confirmed

Some new information has surfaced from Empire that reveals the character that Martin Freeman will be playing in Captain America: Civil War. They've confirmed that he has taken on the role of Everett Ross. It's been rumored for some time already that he would be playing this character, but until now it was just rumor and speculation.

The character is a member of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre in the film, and he also served as an ambassador to Wakanda in the comics. Because of that there's a good chance that we might see the character return for Marvel's Black Panther. In a previous interview with Freeman, the actor explained:

“He works for the American government. He works in conjunction with the superheroes, and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes’ power, I suppose. So you’re not quite sure which side he’s on. It looks a little bit like he’s playing one game when actually he’s playing another. It’s the kind of character I like because it’s ambiguous and because you don’t know whether he’s good or bad. I like that area that isn’t black or white, I like the grays, because I think there’s just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line.”

The magazine also gives us a new photo of the character with Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, which you can see above.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

The Anthony and Joe Russo-directed film will hit theaters on theaters on May 6th, 2016.
