Martin Scorsese Continues to Criticize Marvel Movies Saying, "We Shouldn't Be Invaded by It"

Well, director Martin Scorsese is doubling down on the recent comments he made about Marvel movies not being cinema. After admitting that he doesn’t watch the films, Scorsese previously said:

“Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”

A lot of actors, directors, and fans didn’t care for Scorsese’s remarks, saying that he’s wrong because Marvel movies are cinema. It’s not like the filmmaker can change the definition of what cinema is. But, during a recent panel at the British Film Institute’s London Film Festival after a screening of The Irishman, he continued his criticism of Marvel movies, saying:

"The value of a film that’s like a theme park film, for example, the Marvel type pictures where the theaters become amusement parks, that’s a different experience. As I was saying earlier, it's not cinema, it’s something else. Whether you go for that or not, it is something else and we shouldn’t be invaded by it. And so that’s a big issue, and we need the theater owners to step up for that to allow theaters to show films that are narrative films.”

It’s so funny because Marvel movies are narrative films because they all tell a story! Is he saying that Marvel films don’t tell a story? Since Scorsese doesn’t watch Marvel movies, he obviously can’t have a real educated opinion on the matter. He’s just making stuff up now.

Regardless of how he feels about Marvel movies, I still enjoy the films he has made. He’s one of my favorite filmmakers and storytellers. I just wish he’d actually educate himself on Marvel movies before he starts saying stuff like this.

What do you all think about Scorsese’s recent remarks?
