Marvel Actors Simu Liu and Tenoch Huerta Weigh In on AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Shoot and Sharing Set With Legends
Avengers: Doomsday is currently shooting, and fans aren’t the only ones impressed with the cast. Some of the newer stars of the MCU are getting starstruck by some of the veteran actors on set, and two of them have spoken about their experiences. Simu Liu, who plays Shang-Chi in his own Marvel franchise, explained that sharing the stage with the X-Men was a very exciting moment for him.
During a recent Q&A, Liu carefully explained, "I mean, what an incredible call to get. I experienced kind of many waves of excitement. I think first getting that call and then learning who else was gonna be there, some of whom I had had the pleasure of meeting and some I had not yet met.
“But each and every one of them...just iconic, iconic people. I think this is public now, but like Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, just people who I grew up watching and idolizing. And then having gotten maybe, maybe having gotten the opportunity to do scenes with them at some point.
“That may or may not have been even better – would be something that I maybe would say if I was in the movie."
Another Marvel star, Tenoch Huerta, who played Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever talked about meeting Robert Downey Jr. on the Avengers: Doomsday set in a recent interview on El CAPI Pérez. Downey, who formerly played the MCU’s Iron Man, was filming scenes as the villainous Doctor Doom, and Huerta was caught off guard.
"He’s really handsome, dude. The guy looks really young, too," the Namor actor said. "The thing is, I wasn’t in the scene. I went to see the directors, I wanted to talk to them about a few lines and meet them face to face.
“When I was there, [he] comes up to look at the monitors and I said, 'Ah, no way!' I really said, 'Damn, I left my knee pads back at the hotel, man!'"
It seems likely that the two villains will share the screen at some point in the film, but we will just have to wait and see.
The star-studded cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor.
It also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit, and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
We are still waiting for more casting to be confirmed. Marvel Studios has officially wrapped production on the highly anticipated film, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with a release date set for December 18, 2026. The follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, is slated for December 17, 2027.
