Marvel and Sony are Now Fighting Over Who Will Get Custody of Spider-Man Director Jon Watts in the Divorce

When the news of this latest drama dropped on Tuesday that Sony was making the split from Marvel, and taking Spider-Man, and going home, it was originally reported that actor Tom Holland and director Jon Watts were both contracted to make another film in the franchise, but that was only half true. Holland is in fact under contract, but Watts was only obligated to make the first two films, and the verdict it still out on who will direct the next film. And while it’s pretty clear that Sony would be smart to bring back the director that made them the highest-grossing film in their history, Deadline reports that Marvel is currently “courting” Watts, to keep him busy on their side.

It’s unclear what they would be hiring him to work on, but the reason for the timing has got to be because-
A. They know he’s a solid director, and they have so freaking many projects coming up, so they want to nab him for one. 2. They want to give Sony even less of a chance to have a solo Spider-Man film succeed without them. C. A mixture of the two.

Who knows what Watts will end up doing, but he’s in a pretty sweet position, and will probably end up doing exactly what he wants to do, whatever that may be. We will keep you posted.
