Marvel Approached Adam McKay About Directing GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 and INHUMANS
Marvel Studios has yet to announce a director to replace James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. We know that they’ve approached several directors already, and one of them happened to be Adam McKay.
McKay worked with Marvel as a screenwriter on Ant-Man and has also worked on the Anchorman films, Step Brothers, The Other Guys, The Big Short, and most recently, Vice. The filmmaker was recently a guest on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, and that’s where he revealed he was approached by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige about doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He also said that he was up for the job to direct Inhumans before they opted to develop it as a crappy TV series.
"We've talked a little bit. Yeah. We were kicking around the idea of the Inhumans at one point. We're always kind of talking. I think Feige is just the greatest and what they're doing is amazing."
I like the films that McKay has made over the years and I’ve enjoy his comedy style, but I’m not sure that he is the right guy to take on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gig. I don’t think his kind of humor would have fit in with the tone that James Gunn set. Obviously, things didn’t work out, but it just goes to show that Marvel has probably gone to everyone that they’ve liked to work with over the years for the job.
It certainly would have been interesting to see what he would have done with Inhumans. That’s a world of characters that he could’ve built up as his own. He could have set the tone for that, and it’d be cool to learn what exactly he was planning with Feige.
So far, my favorite director who has been rumored for the Guardians of the Galaxy directing job is Travis Knight, who directed Bumblebee. Unfortunately, he debunked the rumor and is going back to Laika to start work on a new stop-motion film project.
Who are you hoping to see direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
