Marvel Casts Michael Gandolfini in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN
Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark) is set to take on a major role in Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again series. He will be joining Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who are set to reprise their roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
There are no details on Gandolfini’s character, but the report says that it’s possible “he plays an ambitious guy from Staten Island referred to as Liam.” Gandolfini most recently played the younger version of Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark, which was played by his father, the late James Gandolfini, in The Sopranos.
Cox previously talked a little bit about what he would like to see in the upcoming Daredevil series and shared some things he’d like to see that they weren’t able to do in the Netflix series. He specifically points out that he wants there to be more acrobatics.
"Hopefully, on the Disney Plus show, Born Again, we will be able to use – and I hope that we do it sparingly, I believe it should be used sparingly – but we'll hopefully be able to use a tiny bit more CGI in the action sequences. Just to emphasize his gymnastic abilities that have been basically impossible to do.”
Cox went on to explain why we would like to see this in the new series, saying, "These little moments would elevate scenes and be something that makes the show even more recognizable to the comics.”
The series is being written and executive produced by Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord. The 18-episode season of Daredevil: Born Again is slated to premiere sometime in 2024.
