Marvel Comics Acquires the Rights to PREDATOR and ALIEN
Predator and Alien are headed to Marvel Comics! IGN is reporting that Marvel has acquired the rights both properties and they will be developing a new line of comics set in these fan-favorite sci-fi universes.
Marvel hasn’t revealed any details on what these comic series will entail or how they will fit in with the Marvel Universe if they will fit into it at all. But, they will expand on the characters and they’ve also shared a couple of teaser images to get fans pumped up!
The images come from Batman artist David Finch, and the first one shows his take on Alien's "Big Chap" Xenomorph:
The second one features Predator, and it shows him holding the head of Iron Man!
Could we see something like Alien Vs. Predator V.s The Avengers? Because that could be fun! However, the report makes it clear that “the Predator teaser isn't meant to suggest the two franchises will be integrated into the Marvel Universe.”
They explain that the new comics will “expand on the characters and settings of the various Alien and Predator movies.” But, it’s always possible to see the Alien and Predator crossover with other Marvel characters. That’s one of the things that makes this news so fun!
The artist who drew up the teaser art had this to say in a statement:
"Alien and Predator are the two of the most identifiable, iconic characters of all time, and I love them for that. But mostly, it’s being fortunate enough to be a kid when they were new. I’ve seen every movie they’ve ever been in, and I cannot wait to see them wreaking havoc in the Marvel Universe. I drew my pictures of them with a massive smile on my face.”
Dark Horse Comics has been publishing Alien and Predator stories since 1988 and 1989, but that has come to an end. What are you hoping to see Marvel do with this iconic sci-fi properties?
