Marvel Comics Finally Gives Jack Kirby the Credit He Deserves
Marvel Comics and and the Jack Kirby estate recently settled a lawsuit over the rights to several iconic superhero characters that Jack Kirby created with Stan Lee while working for Marvel back in the 1960s and 1970s.
The terms of the settlement were not revealed, but Marvel and the Kirby estate issued a joint statement that said,
“Marvel and the family of Jack Kirby have amicably resolved their legal disputes, and are looking forward to advancing their shared goal of honoring Mr. Kirby’s significant role in Marvel’s history."
It looks like they've started the process of honoring Kirby's contribution to Marvel, as they've quietly made a change to some of its comic books. In recent issues of Fantastic Four and X-Men a new credit line has been included that reads “Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby." This has not been present in the previous issues of either comic. That credit line is also likely to appear in other comics Kirby had a hand in creating for Marvel.
The company is finally giving credit to Kirby, which is long overdue. It's crazy that they haven't been crediting his contribution to these comics for all of these years.
