Marvel Confirms Spider-Man is the Only Sony Character in the MCU and Venom Will Not Appear in Any Spider-Man Movies
If you're still confused about what is going on between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures in regards to Spider-Man, this new information will just add to the confusion.
First Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said there were no plans to include Venom in the MCU. Then Spider-Man: Homecoming producer Amy Pascal said the films they are making, including Venom, would take place in the same universe. Well, now Feige and Tom Holland are saying nope!
During a recent interview with JoBlo, Feige had this to say:
“Right now, Spidey is in the MCU and it's just Spidey. Civil War, Homecoming, we've already shot a lot of Tom Holland's scenes in the upcoming Avengers films, and we're just starting to solidify our plans for Homecoming 2 — we won't call it that, whatever it is — which is exciting because it'll be the first MCU movie after untitled Avengers in 2019. It'll be the way Civil War informed everything in Homecoming, those movies will launch him off into a very new cinematic universe at that point. Those five movies are [what] we're focusing on.”
So not only does Feige confirm that Venom is not connected to the MCU, he also reveals that the first Marvel movie to be released after Avengers: Infinity War will be the Spider-Man sequel. Spider-Man actor Tom Holland then goes on to say that Venom will never appear in a future Spider-Man film. This is what he had to say to CB:
"Everyone's asking this question, man. It's never happening."
When talking about the future of the franchise and the villains that will be involved, he goes on to say:
"There are so many. I'm so excited to explore new villains. I want to see people we haven't seen before because Spider-Man, of all characters, probably has the most villains and it only makes sense to explore new ones."
So now it looks like Venom and the rest of the other villains that Sony Pictures plans on working with will not be meeting with Tom Hollands Spider-Man anytime soon... if ever. Sony and Marvel really need to communicate and give us an official and clear explanation of what their intentions with Spider-Man are.
