Marvel Enlists TRUE DETECTIVE Creator Nic Pizzolatto to Work on BLADE Script
Nic Pizzolatto, the creator of HBO’s True Detective, is going to get to play in the Marvel Studios sandbox. The filmmaker has been hired to work on Mahershala Ali’s Blade movie. A dark vampire project like this seems like it might be the perfect project for Pizzolatto, as his storytelling style captures a kind of dark and gritty tone that would work perfectly for the supernatural vampire film.
Pizzolatto previously worked with Ali on season three of True Detective. The inital draft of the script for Blade was written by Michael Starrbury ( When They See Us), and according to the report, Pizzolatto is working off that draft and has already been working on it a few weeks now.
Blade is going to start production in late May in Atlanta with Yann Demange, who helmed the pilot of HBO’s boundary-pushing horror series Lovecraft Country, directing. It was previously reported that Marvel is looking to go with “a darker tone on this film than other MCU projects have been in the past.”
Blade was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan for 1973’s The Tomb of Dracula No. 10. He is a half-mortal, half-immortal who hunts vampires in order to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him.
Mia Goth and Delroy Lindo are both also attached to star in the movie. Marvel has set a release date of September 6th, 2024.
