Marvel is Developing TV Shows For Loki, Scarlet Witch and other MCU Heroes
Disney has got some huge plans cooking and they are looking to fill up their streaming service with all kinds of original content for their subscribers. Today we’ve learned that some of that content will include more Marvel TV shows!
According to Variety, two of these series will revolve around Loki and Scarlet Witch, and there will be other made that focus on various other Marvel characters that weren’t named. However, the characters that are said to get their own shows are second tier MCU characters that have not gotten their own movies.
In case you were wondering if actors Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen would reprise their roles to star in these series, the answer would be yes. So, expect to see them back in action!
The report goes on to say that these shows will have big hefty budgets that will rival “those of a major studio production.” It’s also said that each of these limited series are expected to include six to eight episodes.
Marvel Studios will produce the shows and Kevin Feige is expected to take a hands-on role in their development. Sources clarify saying that these limited series are set under Marvel Studios, not under Marvel TV Studios, which includes Agents of SHIELD and all the Marvel Netflix shows. I think that’s a really smart move! After all, these are Marvel movie characters that they will be playing with.
As of right now, these projects are still in early development and the studio is currently on the hunt for writers. The report adds:
Storylines for each series are still being teased out, but Disney appears to be holding back some significant fire power for the big screen. Insiders stress the Avengers that have gotten their own movies like Iron Man and Captain America will not be featured in the series with the studios focusing on characters who have served as second tier characters in the MCU.
These shows could very well be the Disney’s most ambitious TV projects in terms of scope and budget. Of course, they are also developing that Star Wars series with Jon Favreau, and that’s said to have a $100 million budget.
One thing is for sure, Disney is going all in with their streaming service and they are doing some crazy cool unexpected stuff!
