Marvel Is Reportedly Looking at Casting Emma Watson in BLACK WIDOW
One movie that we know is coming in Marvel’s Phase 4 plan is the Black Widow solo movie. Scarlet Johansson is set to reprise her role, and the film is being directed by Cate Shortland (Lore, Berlin Syndrome) from a script written by Jac Shaeffer (Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, The Hustle).
As the movie moves closer to production in June, they are starting the casting process, and as you might imagine, the studio is looking to fill that cast with A-list talent.
According to a report from The Hashtag Show, Harry Potter star Emma Watson is wanted for a second female lead that has been described as a “kick ass female Bond” type character. They want an actress that is capable of a playing a physically demanding role who is said to also “feel similar to star Scarlet Johansson.”
While Watson is at the top of the studios list, they have also tested Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures), Dar Zuzovsky (Hostages, Neighborhood), and Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family), who is still in the running.
While I like Watson and think she is a wonderful actress, I would much rather see Pugh take on the role. She’s also a fantastic actress, and she did a great job kicking ass in Fighting With My Family. It’s honestly hard to imagine Watson as a brutal ass-kicker. But, maybe Marvel can turn her into one.
The story is rumored to be set in 2006, which is a couple years prior to the events of Iron Man. The characters Ref Guardian and Taskmaster are also rumored to be a part of the story
The movie is expected to be released at some point in 2020.
