Marvel Is Whipping INDIANA JONES Back Into Comic Book Adventures With an Awesome New Series

It looks like Indiana Jones isn't done chasing ancient relics just yet. While Lucasfilm appears to have wrapped up Indy's adventures on both the big and small screens… for now, the legendary archaeologist is getting a fresh shot at adventure where he's always felt right at home... in comic books.

Marvel Comics is bringing the fedora-wearing hero back with an all-new series, and fans are also getting the chance to revisit some of his greatest comic book adventures from decades past. As a huge fan of this franchise, it’s so exciting that we are getting new stories!

During Lucasfilm's San Diego Comic-Con panel, the studio announced Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium, a five-issue miniseries set after Raiders of the Lost Ark. The story comes from Jason Aaron (Absolute Superman) and Aaron Kuder (Planet She-Hulk), and it throws Indy into another globe-spanning mystery that's packed with supernatural danger.

This time around, Indiana Jones is searching for a mysterious "biblical weapon" that threatens everything he believes about the supernatural.

As if that wasn't enough trouble, the adventure also features the "impossible return of an archenemy," while Marion Ravenwood finds herself in possession of the power source connected to the weapon. It sounds like exactly the kind of treasure hunt fans have been craving.

This marks Indiana Jones' first brand-new comic series since the 2000s, and it's also Marvel's first crack at the character since the publisher held the license back in the 1980s.

The publisher is also releasing deluxe hardcover collections titled The Further Adventures, bringing together those classic Marvel comics for a new generation of readers. The collections will include the original comic series along with comic adaptations of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

What makes this announcement even more exciting is that Marvel seems to have bigger plans than a single miniseries. The publisher described these releases as the start of a "bold new era" of Indiana Jones comics, with stories taking place during the timeline of the original trilogy. That certainly sounds like there's plenty more treasure hunting ahead if readers show up for these books.

We won't have to wait too long to jump back into the action. Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium #1 arrives on December 9, while the first The Further Adventures deluxe hardcover lands earlier on September 9.

Even if Indy's future on film remains uncertain, it's awesome to see one of cinema's greatest adventurers getting another chance to crack whips, solve ancient mysteries, and chase legendary artifacts.

Comic books feel like the perfect place to keep those classic adventures alive, and this looks like a fantastic way to kick off a new chapter for Indiana Jones.
