Marvel President Kevin Feige on Collaborating With Oscar Isaac on MOON KNIGHT
The talented actor Oscar Isaac, best known for his roles in the most recent Star Wars trilogy, X-Men: Apocalypse, Triple Frontier, Dune, and Scenes From a Marriage, is about to make the jump into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight. The actor had been up for the challenge of a Marvel project for some time, but was waiting for the right project and the right amount of collaboration.
MCU President Kevin Feige talked about securing Isaac in the multifaceted role of Marc Spector/Moon Knight/Steven Grant in a recent interview with Empire (via ComicBook), saying:
"We've always loved Moon Knight... he always fascinated us as something we hadn't seen before, [so] when the Disney+ idea came up, it quickly became one of the first things we wanted to do, because we loved the story. We'd always liked [Isaac]... and he clearly likes this world – Star Wars, X-Men – but we hadn't found the right thing, necessarily," he continued. "We started talking [about Moon Knight], and he had a couple of outside-the-box ideas that we were like, 'Maybe this could work..: And spoiler alert: they do."
As for Isaac, the report goes on to explain that he wanted the opportunity to actually have a creative say in his character and the story he inhabits. If Marvel simply wanted someone to come in and simply act the part, it doesn't sound like something he would've been as interested in. Fortunately, Marvel wanted Isaac to collaborate on Moon Knight.
Isaac explained:
"In a way it was a test. Do they want me to bring my creativity to this, or do they want a company man who will do whatever they say?"
Isaac was able to have a say in many big decisions for Moon Knight. In fact, it was Isaac's idea to do different accents for the different personalities of the character, a decision that stuck and made his take on the character pretty exciting.
I am so stoked to see Oscar Isaac take on this role! This series looks so freaking good, and like it’s going to be a brand new breath of fresh air in the Marvel universe. Moon Knight is set to premiere its first episode on March 30th on Disney+. Are you excited to watch?
