Marvel Reportedly Has 3 Never-Before-Seen Heroes Planned for AVENGERS: SECRET WARS
Marvel is sure to be saving a lot of fun and interesting surprises for Avengers: Secret Wars, and apparently not every hero joining the fight will be someone fans already know.
A new report claims the massive Marvel movie could introduce three never-before-seen superheroes as part of its Resistance Avengers line-up. Considering how many established MCU characters are already floating around ahead of Secret Wars, dropping three completely new players into the middle of the Multiverse Saga finale could make things even crazier.
The information comes from scooper Alex Perez, who recently discussed Avengers: Secret Wars during a Q&A with The Cosmic Circus. A fan asked whether the Resistance team could include heroes who are currently absent from Avengers: Doomsday, specifically mentioning Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Vision, Star-Lord, Hulk, Wong, and others.
Perez replied, “Partially, yes. There’s a sort of hierarchy for the Resistance Avengers.” He then offered an interesting breakdown of how this version of the Avengers could be organized, saying: “There’s the leaders (older, established figures), there’s the newbies (The younger heroes), and there’s the never-before-seen characters (there’s 3 atm).”
Three new superheroes showing up in Secret Wars raises plenty of questions. Are these characters Marvel Comics fans will immediately recognize but who haven’t appeared in the MCU yet? Could they be alternate-universe heroes? Or are we looking at characters specifically being introduced to help establish the MCU that comes after the Multiverse Saga?
For now, their identities remain a mystery, and the report should obviously be treated as a rumor until Marvel confirms something. Still, the idea fits with the gigantic scope expected from Secret Wars.
Perez also suggested that the Resistance Avengers could break into smaller groups that are “chasing different stories.” If that’s accurate, the movie may use a structure somewhat similar to Avengers: Endgame, where the heroes split into teams and pursued different Infinity Stones before eventually coming back together.
That approach would certainly make sense for Secret Wars. With established Avengers, younger heroes, potential returning characters, multiversal variants, and apparently three newcomers all competing for screen time, Marvel will need a way to keep the story moving without turning the movie into one enormous superhero traffic jam.
There’s still a ton Marvel hasn’t revealed about Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is currently concentrating on Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theaters on December 18, but they wouldn’t really reveal anything big anyway because Marvel loves their secrets.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, however, has offered one important clarification about what comes next. During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Feige indicated that Marvel Studios' post-Secret Wars “roadmap” will follow the path established by Jonathan Hickman in the comics.
That’s an especially interesting detail considering Hickman’s Secret Wars saga completely reshaped the Marvel Universe and provided a clean opportunity to rebuild parts of it afterward.
That makes these three mystery superheroes even more intriguing. Marvel could simply be introducing characters needed specifically for the Secret Wars story, but they could also represent part of the MCU’s future.
If Hickman’s comics really are influencing Marvel’s plans beyond the movie, Secret Wars could function as much as a new beginning as it does a finale.
Before we get any of those answers, though, Marvel has to unleash Avengers: Doomsday. After that, the Multiverse Saga heads toward its massive endgame when Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in theaters on December 17, 2027.
Now the fun part is figuring out who those three mystery heroes might be.
