Marvel Studios Confirms WANDAVISION and Shares Info on Their WHAT IF...? Animated Series

Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege showed up on the Disney Studio Lot today to talk to investors about some of their upcoming shows on Disney+ . We already shared a logo for Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s Falcon & Winter Solider series and he also confirmed that Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) series will be called WandaVision.

He didn’t say much about the show, but when talking about what they are planning for their Marvel shows, Feige said:

“We like to take big swings at Marvel Studios ... this story is definitely something unexpected and surprising, as well as something we can only do in a longform series.”

“Most exciting to us is that in addition to the films available on the platform, Marvel will be creating original series just for Disney+.”

He went on to talk about the quality of these shows which also includes a Loki series with Tom Hiddleston:

“Over the course of the 23 films, we’ve pulled together a roster of amazing actors and talented filmmakers, and we’re excited to continue to work with these individuals to tell new, longform stories in ways that we’ve never done before. These shows will be on the same level of quality that you’ve come to expect from Marvel Studios, and we’ll be taking advantage of that creative freedom that Disney+ offers exploring the MCU, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with our favorite characters over multiple episodes. These will be both new and continuing stories, and one of the things we’re most excited about, is that these will be major storylines set in the MCU with ramifications that will be felt both through the other Disney+ series we’re producing and our features on the big screen.”

Feige added that, "Each of the series will be equal to the movies in quality and storytelling. They are immensely important. Deepen the mythology and significant impact the future of the MCU."

That’s pretty exciting and I’m excited to see what they end up delivering with these live-action shows! Feige then went on to talk about their highly anticipated What If…? animated series.

It was previously explained that the stories told in this series will not be canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series will tell stories that “explore how the Marvel Cinematic Universe might have unfolded if key moments in its history had not occurred as they did in recognized canon. For example, one of the episodes will adapt What If? Vol. #47, which explored the idea of ‘What if Loki had found the hammer of Thor?’”

When talking about the series, Feige said:

"Marvel Studios’s first animated series. Taking inspiration from the comics of the same name, etc episode will feature a different moment from the MCU and turn it on its head."

He went on to reveal that the first episode is “set in a world where Peggy Carter got the Super Soldier Serum, and scrawny Steve Rogers joined the fight in a suit of armor created by Howard Stark.”

That sounds like fun and it will be cool to see Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter share some more screentime together even though it will be animated. As far as the voice cast goes, Feige said that "new and returning cast members will be lending their voice to the animated counterparts." So there’s a chance that Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell could reprise their roles which would be super cool!

This What If…? series could be pretty incredible and I hope that they get a top quality animation team to develop them.

What do you hope to see from WandaVision and this What If…? anthology series?
