Marvel Studios Developing THUNDERBOLTS Movie with Director Jake Schreier
Marvel Studios is officially moving forward with its Thunderbolts movie and they’ve hired Jake Schreier (Paper Towns, Robot & Frank) to direct, and Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson is writing the script. Obviously, Kevin Fiege is producing.
It’s explained that the film revolves around “a group of supervillains (or at least characters who have played bad guys at one point in MCU) who go on missions for the government.” You know, kinda like Suicide Squad.
It’s also reported that Marvel has “been in touch with certain individuals who already are part of the MCU to make sure to keep an opening in their schedules for next summer when it shoots.” We don’t know what characters we’ll see in the film, but it could potentially include Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, The Abomination, US Agent, Winter Soldier, and others.
Over the years, in the comics, the team has also included characters such as Mr. Hyde, Crossbones, Absorbing Man, Grant Ward, The Punisher, Bullseye, Luke Cage, Hawkeye, Elektra, Ghost Rider, and members of The Inhumans.
General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” is the person in the comics who assembles the first team and he was played by William Hurt in the MCU. But, Hurt passed away earlier this year. There’s no information on if they will cast an actor to replace him. But, Baron Zemo could also step into the leadership spot.
Thunderbolts is a high priority for Marvel Studios and is one they are going to be focusing on. Apparently, the director’s presentation “blew away execs and ultimately landing him the job.” Schreier recently wrapped production on the A24 and Netflix series Beef and has directed episodes of FX’s Dave.
What characters would you like to see make up the MCU Thunderbolt team?
