Marvel Studios Has Future Plans for THOR: RAGNAROK Characters Korg and Miek
Thor: Ragnarok is already looking to be one of Marvel Studios’ best-reviewed films in a long time, possibly the best yet. From its colorful action to its beefed-up humor, Ragnarok will surely end up being one of this year's most entertaining movies.
Most of the credit goes to Ragnarok's director, Taika Waititi who not only helmed the massive sequel, he also plays one of the film’s most memorable characters, Korg – a giant fear-inducing rock creature at least until you hear his soft-spoken New Zealand accent. Throughout the film, Korg is often with his insectoid alien friend, Miek. And once you see them together in action, you will want more of them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, we might just be getting that. During a recent interview with Fandango Feige said:
“We have plans for Korg and Miek, When and where we'll have to wait and see, but we, like the audience now that they've seen them, can't get enough.”
Waititi even confirmed that there have been discussions about resurrecting the Marvel One-Shots for a short featuring the duo.
“We were talking about doing a little spin-off,” he said. “Like one of these One-Shot short films with Korg and Miek… like [them] just going shopping and things.”
Marvel Studios decided to stop producing those One-Shot shorts that were include on a film’s Blu-ray, and Feige explained:
“The truth is we're a studio that has just recently gone from producing two movies a year to three movies a year, and we're very comfortable now with the arrangement we have making three movies a year,” he said. “That doesn't leave a whole lot of room for other things like one-shots.”
Feige did leave room to be playful in other areas:
“That being said, the "Team Thor" short that Taika did with Darryl and Thor were great fun, and are quite doable, and in some parts helped redefine Thor into what he's become in "Ragnarok" in a fun way. So there might be opportunities for more things like that.”
Like Jon Favreau, Tiaka Waititi has not only been behind the camera of a successful Marvel film, he also starred as one of its more beloved characters and could make future appearances.
Does that mean he’ll direct another Thor sequel?
“Yes, it all depends on whether they can meet Taika Waititi, the actor, exorbitant fees because Korg is now established in this film and if you want Korg you have to… cash up,” he joked. “The actor version doesn’t work without the director version.”
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3.
