Marvel Studios Has No Plans To Cross Over Into R-Rated Territory

With films like Deadpool and Logan blowing up at the box office, there's been a lot of discussion regarding R-rated comic book movies. Before Deadpool, the studios didn't think anyone would go see an R-rated comic book movie! Boy, were they wrong.

But, just because Fox is finding success with these R-rated superhero films doesn't mean everyone is going to jump on the bandwagon and it doesn't mean every R-rated comic book movie will succeed like Deadpool and Logan

When talking about these two films, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained to THR that they have no plans to crossover into R-rated territory and he explains what he took away from them saying:

"My takeaway from both of those films is not the R rating; it's the risk they took, the chances they took, the creative boundaries that they pushed. That should be the takeaway for everyone."

Feige went on to use Deadpool breaking the fourth wall and the incredible story told in Logan as examples of what made those movies stand out. He has a proven track record for helping develop great stories for the movies they make and those films don't need to be rated R to be great because, in the end, it's all about story and character.

I don't think any of the fans expect Marvel to get into the hardcore stuff with their films. It's just not their style. We get our dark hardcore Marvel adaptation with the Netflix series, but even those, don't really cross into rated R territory.

I personally don't care what a rating for a movie is. As long as the content helps strengthen the story... that's what matters. If that ends up crossing the line and going for R... so be it! I just don't think studios need to make rated R comic book movies for the sake of making rated R comic book movies.
