Marvel Studios' INHUMANS Movie Likely Delayed Once Again

Marvel Studios' Inhumans film was originally slated to hit theaters in 2018, smack dab in the middle of the two Avengers: Infinity War movies. Delays pushed it to 2019, and now company president and mega-producer Kevin Feige is preparing fans for the movie to be kicked even further down the release pipeline.

In an interview with Collider, Feige explained why it's very, very likely that we won't see Inhumans in 2019:

Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.

So it sounds like Indy is partly to blame for the new delay. But what about the rumors that popped up a little while back that the Inhumans movie was being taken off the release calendar for good? The theory behind that was that Marvel Studios, now free from having to report to Ike Perlmutter, might cancel the movie out of spite, since Perlmutter's TV branch has been laying the groundwork for Inhumans in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a while now. Feige responded to that as well, when Collider asked, "But it’s not a matter of “they’re already doing that on TV, we’re not doing it?”

No, it’s a question of when.

So according to Feige, fans will see an Inhumans movie one day, but he's just not sure exactly when he'll fit it into his busy schedule. It could be as soon as one year after the current date — the studio does have three dates already carved out for 2020, and no specific films attached to those dates at this point. Vin Diesel has been campaigning to star in the movie as Black Bolt, and Adam McKay may end up directing it if the timing works out. To read more about the movie, click here.
