Marvel Studios is Looking to Oversee All Live-Action TV Shows To Maintain a High Standard
Jeph Loeb has been in charge of most of the Marvel TV projects while Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios have handled the big screen events. Well, as you know, Marvel Studios is developing a series of projects for Disney+ that will be big-budget event limited series that will have the same high standards as the films.
While some of Loeb’s Marvel TV productions are still pressing forward, it looks like Feige and Marvel Studio are looking to take over all of the Marvel shows that are made! According to multiple industry sources who spoke with Variety:
"The perception throughout the entertainment business is that live-action productions will be mostly if not completely moved away from Marvel Television, headed by veteran exec and producer Jeph Loeb, as Feige’s unit ramps up production on its own Marvel series projects."
One of the main reasons for this so that all of the TV shows will live up to the high standards of the films that are made:
“According to an individual with knowledge of the productions, Marvel Studios execs and Feige held meetings early on to discuss how to maintain the visual standard fans have come to expect from Marvel’s films while still bringing their budgets more in line with other TV shows. Those budgets will still be on the high end of the spectrum.”
It makes sense for all of these projects to be developed by the same people who are developing the films. Marvel TV has been hit and miss with the shows that they’ve developed, but if Marvel Studios takes the reign on all of them, there’s a better chance that the quality of the shows will improve.
The report points out that all Marvel Studios shows are expected to be six to eight episodes per season, with budgets comparable to a Marvel film project, which are said to “typically run between $100 and $150 million.” A TV agent insider said:
“Feige’s shows are so far beyond anything Marvel TV has been able to do. He has access to all of these MCU characters that the other Marvel live-action stuff just doesn’t, not to mention way bigger budgets.”
Now there still are some live-action Marvel TV projects in development such as Helstrom, The Runaways, and Cloak & Dagger. Then there are the animated shows coming to Hulu such as Howard the Duck, MODOK, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler. Those will all lead to a crossover event series called The Offenders.
If Marvel Studios ends up completely taking over the TV shows, I imagine that many of them will end up coming to Disney+ to lure in the fans and subscribers.
What do you think about Marvel Studios looking to phase out what Jeph Loeb has been doing and work their way into completely taking over?
