Marvel Studios to Keep Costs Down Focusing on X-MEN Reboot and BLACK PANTHER 3 as BLADE and DEADPOOL Stall
Marvel Studios has pulled back the reigns on the amount of output they release each year. After a slump that lasted a few years, post-Avengers: Endgame, the studio is focusing on quality over quantity.
But even with a regroup and some exciting movies that have fans looking forward to the future of our favorite superheroes, it seems as though the box office numbers will never return to what they were pre-pandemic.
So with that in mind, the heads of Marvel are looking to not only slow down their production, but also prioritize which projects will cost the least to make.
In a recent article analyzing the current state of Marvel, Variety reported that there are some projects the studio may be looking to make ahead of others, as they role out some huge projects, like the scheduled Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027.
The report goes on to say that despite chatter among fans and producers, sources say the Marvel brain trust is feeling no sense of urgency on the long-gestating Blade reboot or even a new Deadpool sequel. However, ideas are percolating on a Ryan Coogler-helmed Black Panther 3, creating excitement internally.
The bar has been lowered, but the flame of Marvel superhero movies is still burning. Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps were solid films that will carry us through to the releases of next year. Then we will see what the landscape looks like after that.
