Marvel Studios Not Presenting in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con in 2023
Every year at San Diego Comic-Con, Hall H is the place to be. You have to check out the convention floor to find your favorite artists, comic books, gaming materials, swag, merchandise, and experiences. The smaller rooms in the convention center and in and around the hotel across the way host plenty of awesome panels from your favorite shows, and cool upcoming projects, but Hall H is where the biggest studios host their panels. This is where you see the biggest stars, and feel the buzz of the convention’s biggest news, which always culminates in the most exciting panel of the whole weekend, Marvel Studios.
Unfortunately, the studio known for its powerhouse presentations has officially bowed out this year. The Wrap reports that Marvel has announced that they will be skipping the Hall H panel this year, but they have confirmed that they will have a presence on the convention floor.
The studio reasons that they currently have multiple productions on pause due to the ongoing writer’s strike. The productions currently on pause include Blade, Thunderbolts, Daredevil, and Wonder Man.
The writer’s strike along with a potential strike by SAG-AFTRA are making it tough for studios to show up to the annual convention without product and performers to promote their wares. If SAG-AFTRA is unable to reach a deal on a new labor contract and orders a strike, actors would not be able to do any promotional work for their films and TV shows as part of the labor stoppage.
SAG-AFTRA could order a strike anytime after their current contract with Hollywood studios expires on June 30 if a deal is not reached. Universal and HBO are rumored to be sitting out the Hall H panel scene as well. San Diego Comic-Con is set to take place on the weekend of July 21st. What happens in the next few weeks could certainly alter what the convention looks like this year. We will keep you posted.
