Marvel Studios Rumored To Be Developing a SPIDER-MAN 2099 Series For Disney+
An interesting new rumor has surfaced in which Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are said to be developing a Spider-Man 2099 series for Disney+. The rumor originates from scooper Mikey Sutton in his Geekosity Facebook group via Bounding Into Comics.
Here’s what Sutton had to say: “Spider-Man is coming to television. It just won’t be Peter Parker. I received a phone call earlier this evening letting me know that a Spider-Man 2099 live-action show has been discussed for Disney+. In other words, this’ll be a Sony-Marvel Studios collaboration if it is greenlit with Kevin Feige manning the controls. I know quite little of this property, and while I usually try to dig deeper before releasing a story such as this, this source has been accurate in the past. I will continue to ask around and keep you all updated.”
Obviously, we are going to take this with a grain of salt. This is just a rumor, and it’s a rumor that I don’t see actually being true. Unless Marvel and Sony plan on extending their partnership beyond what they’ve currently made, this isn’t going to happen. It’d be pretty cool and surprising if it did happen, though!
The story for Spider-Man 2099 is set on Earth-928 in the year is 2099, “Miguel O'Hara worked as the head of the genetics department for the Alchemax Corporation, specializing in genetic coding and splicing. He toyed with the idea of recreating the powers of the original Spider-Man from years ago. Miguel's boss, Tyler Stone, secretly got him addicted to the drug Rapture. This highly addictive drug couldn't be worked out of the body. It was Stone's way of controlling his employees by offering them the expensive drug in return for their loyalty. Miguel decided to try to genetically cure himself by rewriting his genetic code from a sample he had taken previously. He was being watched by a competitive co-worker Aaron Delgato who attempted to sabotage his experiment by adding a random code into the process. The results cured Miguel but also gave him spider-like powers. Aaron tried to shoot him but he fell from the Alchemax building despite Miguel trying to save him. Soon Tyler sent out a cyborg bounty hunter named Venture to capture him. Miguel fled to his home to escape Venture. Grabbing a costume from a Day of the Dead celebration he fought Venture and won. Miguel began fighting crime and the evil corporation Alchemax as Spider-Man.”
The character was created by Peter David and Rick Leonardi and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #365 and would later make a full debut in Spider-Man 2099 #1.
Would you like to see Spider-Man 2099 brought to life as a Disney+ series? Do you think that this is something that could actually happen?
