MARVEL ZOMBIES Series Adds Black Panther, Thor, and More MCU Heavy-Hitters to the Roster
Marvel Studios’ undead adventure is about to get a whole lot bigger. With the October 3 premiere of Marvel Zombies fast approaching, a new wave of characters has been revealed for the highly anticipated Disney+ animated series.
This expansion comes four years after the project was first announced during Disney+ Day, and it looks like the zombie outbreak in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to claim some major names.
According to Nexus Point News, the lineup will reportedly include Black Panther, Thor, Namor, Valkyrie, John Walker, Melina Vostokoff, and Baron Zemo.
What’s not clear yet is whether these characters will be joining the fight for survival or shuffling around as part of the undead horde. There’s also no confirmation if their original MCU actors will be reprising their roles for the series.
On top of that, the report also teased appearances by zombie Hawkeye, zombie Captain America, and Blade Knight. Set in a twisted alternate reality, Marvel Zombies reimagines the MCU with a new generation of heroes facing a relentless zombie plague.
It’s also said that Scarlet Witch will be "front and center in the new series as a powerful adversary." She'll be referred to as the Dead Queen here, while Okoye "serves as a secondary villain and she will be in charge of an undead army, following the Scarlet Witch's orders."
Returning MCU stars lending their voices include Awkwafina (Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings) as Katey, David Harbour (Thunderbolts) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings) as Shang-Chi, Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) as Scarlet Witch, Randall Park (WandaVision) as Jimmy Woo, Florence Pugh (Thunderbolts) as Yelena Belova, Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye) as Kate Bishop, Dominique Thorne (Ironheart) as Riri Williams, and Iman Vellani (The Marvels) as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Hudson Thames (What If…?) will also return as Spider-Man.
The series is directed by Bryan Andrews with a screenplay by Zeb Wells, who also serves as executive producer. The show draws inspiration from the fifth episode of What If…?, where events from Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War spiral into a zombie apocalypse.
In a press release, Andrews promised fans a darker, more intense take on Marvel’s undead: “more hardcore” and “pretty wild” zombie sequences, offering something far gnarlier than what was seen in What If…?.
Marvel Studios' Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, said last year. "In terms of more mature animation, yeah, we're making a Marvel Zombies show right now that is pretty intense that's for sure a TV-MA show.
“And again, it's trying to honor the comics. And what was so great about the comics was it not pulling its punches. That's certainly what we're going for on that project also."
I’m excited for this project!
